WRONGFUL CONVICTIONS
Lineup + Photo Array Structure
Constructing a lineup that does not single out a potential suspect is also important to getting an accurate and confident identification. Using fillers, who are not suspects of the crime, in the lineup that match the description provided by the witness can help increase the accuracy of a correct identification and take away the ability for a witness to simply choose the obvious suspect if he is among others that do not fit the description correctly. In photo arrays, the photos should be structured similarly as well. For example, if one photo is presented as mugshot style pictures, the rest should follow suit. These procedures reduce the likelihood of a suspect being singled out for outside reasons.
